When Pope Francis was elected to his office many in the alternative sphere believed that he would be the Pope to finally initiate disclosure of alien existence. Rumors abounded that the Vatican had discovered extraterrestrial life with their telescope LUCIFER at the Mount Graham International Observatory in Arizona. Where does this idea stem from? What connections actually exist between the Vatican and Extraterrestrials? Is this the Church simply learning from the mistakes of its dark past or is there something more going on here? The Vatican secret archives have always been a source of intrigue to all those who have curious minds. 50 miles of shelving stuffed full of documents dating back to the eighth century is sure to hold some interesting information and priceless artifacts.

A couple of years ago during a renovation, some elongated skulls were found under the library at the Vatican. This has reinforced the idea that the Vatican holds knowledge of alien races. These types of elongated skulls have been found in excavations from around the world. Some say they are simply humans who have bound their skulls. However, many believe that the tradition of skull binding to achieve this elongated look is an attempt to mimic the looks of ancient aliens.

- Christian Art and UFOs

At first glance, this all seems like speculation but when you start to dig the more you dig the more curious and intriguing the whole story becomes. You would be surprised to note the number of UFOs that are found in Christian art.

Ghirlandaio1.jpg

The most famous piece of art is "The Madonna with Saint Giovannino". This painting by an unknown painter dating to the 15th century clearly shows a UFO in the sky. There is also a man on a hill with his dog. He stands shielding his eyes with one hand and stares intently at the object in the sky. This image leaves little to the imagination of what the artist was trying to depict. While many might claim that this is a symbolic object meant to signify the spirit, it must also be admitted by those claimants that the spirit does not as a matter of habit reveal itself in the observable form.

"The Baptism of Christ" by Aert de Gelder, painted in 1710, shows what appears to be a UFO hovering over Christ. It shares many characteristics of UFO sightings of today. Mainly, beams of light coming from the object and its appearance in a remote area. We have all heard the story of the three wise men. These men traveled a great distance following what must have been an unusual object in the sky.

A 14th-century tapestry depicting Mary with two of the wise men shows a rather interesting hat shaped object in the sky. There is little reason to believe that the artist really wanted to depict a flying hat in the sky. This painting can now be found in Burgundy at the French basilica of Notre Dame. In yet another tapestry found today in Burgundy from around the same period we have again what appears to be a UFO with Mary. This piece is titled "The Magnificent" and features another hat-like object in the sky.

In “The Annunciation with Saint Emidius” we have another portrait of Mary receiving what seems to be a laser beam directed to her forehead. This beam is coming from a round object in the sky. Of course, this could be a symbolic configuration meant to depict the holy spirit. It is rather strange that so many artists choose to draw Mary with what can be easily viewed as flying crafts in the sky nearby.

"The Miracle of the Snow" by Masolino Da Panicale shows what clearly seems like disk shaped UFOs. This painting is based on a very interesting legend. It is said that in 352 Pope Giovanni had a dream telling him that he was to build a church on one of the seven hills of Rome. The vision of Mary that came to him in his sleep told him that it would snow where he would build. This indeed came to pass and according to the legend, it snowed in an exact square where a Church was then erected in honor of the Virgin Mary. The story does not end here for this interesting legend of the snow. In 1954 many in Florence and Rome claimed to see flying discs that left a white cotton-like discharge on the ground as they flew over.

Another related artwork portrays Moses with the ten commandments showing flying objects in the sky. What was the artist trying to convey? There could be many different interpretations as to the meaning of this artwork. We cannot know for certain the meaning behind any of these interesting pieces, but it does leave one a bit puzzled.

There are so many Christian Artworks which really seem to be trying to tell us something. In a fresco dating to 1300s depicting the crucifixion, you will find on both sides of the painting two spaceships each with what seems like two pilots inside. These depictions of UFO-like objects are unique to anything else shown in religious artwork.

- Renaissance Thinking & a New Shift in Cosmic Consciousness

During the Renaissance, there was a definitive change in cosmic perspective. As the knowledge of the solar system became more detailed, new theories of intelligent life became popular with many scholars of the time. This is due to the collapse of the geocentric model of the universe brought on by the work of Nicolaus Copernicus. His work inspired others to change their cosmic perspective.

The multi-world view of the Universe seemed more plausible and gained traction. Could it be that early Christian Artwork was influenced by these ideas? It is only natural for an artist to be inspired by his sociocultural context. The shift of cosmic perspective could indeed be responsible for many of the previously noted UFO artwork. Yet, the story of strange depictions of aliens and UFOS dates much further back.

- Biblical References of UFOs

“As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as if it was gleaming metal. And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings.  Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot.

Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl. And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. When they went, they went in any of their four directions without turning as they went. And their rims were tall and awesome, and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose”. - Ezekiel 1

The above passage clearly gives leave to the imagination for being a description of a UFO visit. Indeed, if you study religions across cultures there are always these types of stories.

Ancient Religion, UFOs, and Aliens

Throughout all ancient religions, we get a similar narrative that can easily be perceived as ancient aliens coming to earth. One such example can be found in ancient Indian culture. The Vedas, which were written around 1000- 1500 BC, are a rich source of such material.

"There is just a mass of fascinating information about flying machines, even fantastic science fiction weapons, that can be found in translations of the Vedas (scriptures), Indian epics, and other ancient Sanskrit text".  - Dr. Raghavan, Scholar of Sanskrit

The idea that there existed on earth an ancient alien civilization first became popularized in modern times to me and millions of others through 'Chariots of The Gods' by Erich von Däniken. The ancient astronaut theory, as it is known, provides a possible answer to many of the archaeological unsolved mysteries, such as architectural impossibilities, high levels of mathematical accuracy, and other advanced features of ancient civilizations.

If you are interested in this type of research I highly recommend that you investigate the wealth of interesting information available on the subject. I honestly, cannot do this topic justice within the confines of a short article. The similarities of the stories across continents and cultures in mythology and artifacts at the very least make one wonder.

So what does all of this have to do with the Vatican?

The Vatican has a very old history and was established on the foundations of a pagan cult, which partook in child sacrifice and other evils. This dates back to the pre-republic times of Rome. Emperor Constantine was not the only powerful individual who understood the strategic advantage Christianity might hold.

They represent holdovers of an ancient cult that worshiped these fallen angels, aliens, demons, or whatever interpretation one feels is best suited to apply. It is natural for some remnants of the past to pass down through the ages and take a different meaning. However, the abundance of symbolism that the Vatican and certain elite groups use that carry on from these ancient traditions are too many to be a simple coincidence.

Let's talk about the Pope's miter, which is the same style of those worn by the high priests of pagan deities going back to ancient Sumer and Babylon. The more you study the texts the more you will come to realize that there is definitely a connection between rituals and symbolism of the past and the modern church. Just like many ancient sites the Vatican is designed with symbolic purpose and outlines the constellation Orion. Everyone knows (or should know) about the alignment of the Pyramids of Giza and the Orion constellation. Few realize that many modern cities have similarly aligned monuments connected to stars and planets. This was wonderfully laid out in the documentary "Riddles in Stone" which investigated the occult symbolism and alignments of Washington DC. Vatican City is one of these places whose architecture has led many to speculate on occult connections to alien races and knowledge.

What can we know for certain? Nothing. Yet, this is a topic that spurs the imagination. There are many interesting artifacts and stories of aliens going back as far as recorded history. We can only wonder but wonder we must.
